UK Machine Record
The Champion Pub
Bally · 1998 · at 1 UK venue.
The Champion Pub is one of Bally's most entertaining machines and perhaps the closest pinball has come to recreating a Victorian boxing booth. Designed by John Popadiuk, it combines boxing matches, physical strength tests and a remarkably characterful set of mechanical features.
The boxer mechanism is the star, but the game is really about completing fights and building towards the championship. The playfield is relatively compact, which makes accurate shooting particularly important.
It is an increasingly rare machine in Britain and one that is always worth seeking out. Win the fights rather than simply collecting points; that's what the game was built around.
