About

Stern's Deadpool is one of the most instantly recognisable modern machines in the UK, and probably one of the easiest Sterns to recommend to somebody who doesn't yet know much about pinball. George Gomez designed the game, with the unmistakable hand-drawn artwork coming from Jeremy Packer, better known as Zombie Yeti. Nolan North provides Deadpool's voice, and the whole machine embraces the character's ridiculous sense of humour rather than trying to make the theme respectable.

The layout is deceptively compact. The three-bank drop targets protect Lil' Deadpool, while the two ramps and katana return give the game its satisfying flow. Underneath that is a surprisingly deep ruleset involving the X-Men, villains, time-travel battles and multiple multiballs.

It is a particularly good UK machine because it works at almost any level. A casual player can understand “hit the targets and shoot the ramps”; a tournament player can spend considerably longer figuring out how to maximise the rules. Don't spend the entire game chasing Deadpool; the drop targets are important for a reason.

Silverball guide · Deadpool

Never start a battle empty-handed

Deadpool will happily let you walk into a fight with nothing prepared, and it will let you win it too. The difference between that and a good game is four shots you take before the battle starts.
