Stern's Star Wars is a huge licence with a correspondingly huge amount of material to work with. The game pulls together characters, locations and battles from across the original trilogy and modern Star Wars, creating a machine that is much more about completing objectives than simply shooting for points.
The UK has always had a strong appetite for Star Wars pinball, and the machine is particularly common in larger collections because it has the immediate recognition factor that makes a good location game.
The challenge is learning to ignore the spectacle long enough to understand the rules. The Death Star looks like the obvious target. It isn't always the smartest one.

An easy way to have a good game is play as R2-D2 and choose light death star missions. From there it's easy to start Destroy the Death Star.
Shoot 5 targets with red lights to begin TIE Fighter Hurry-Up. Hit the TIE Fighter, then bash the action button to advance to Multiball!
Start Hyperspace Hurry-Up by completing the bottom lanes and shooting the lit yellow shots. Collect 3 Hurry-Ups for Multiball. Hit the death star to release the third locked ball for 3 ball multiball.
A good way to start is to have the multipliers on DS/Endor/Hoth, then just work Endor and Hoth with the left flipper. Easy 100+ million.
Although operators may adjust level or turn them off altogether, extra balls light for the third mode or for getting 80 tie-fighters.
Always choose Light Tatooine Missions from the skill shot. Otherwise, you will have to make three difficult scoop shots to light them.
